Did anyone else catch the little Coltrane "Love Supreme" hint at around 14:15 in Dark Star I? Very cool. This demonstrates a depth of group-mind and

precision rarely seen in musicians these days, or any days. They're as tight, here, as I've ever heard them. I'm envious of you attendees; lucky, lucky, lucky!
5 star performance on a 3 star recording. Can't wait to listen to the official board, though this has a hall echo.

The Terrapin Encore solidified my opinion that this is the greatest Furthur show that I've been to thus far. I mean come on.... already a legendary Morning
...
Dew> Darkstar, and one of the most intensely psychedelic Viola Lee Blues I've ever heard. This night was the perfect mix of songs (first time hearing High Time live and it was so incredibly beautiful). Quite an epic Shakedown, Fire, Wheel; it was all pure gravy!!!!! Missed night two, so this night was perfect in response to night one (which I made) as the scarlet fire, rider, china connectivity unified those two shows for me. So much fun was had this NY. Can't wait for Bobby and Bruce, and let's all pray for a summer West Coast Tour!!!!!

Because of the GD's past New Years Eve shows, I had always wanted to go out to San Fran and see a New Years Furthur show. I saw them 5 times this year
...
(4 in Philly) and they rocked it every time. I have to say, they blew me away on New Years Eve. This was a terrific show. They came on at about 7:45 and played until 1:30am. The first set's Golden Road Opener, Althea (including strange feedback from Bob's guitar), Shakedown Street to Viola Lee Blues, had me dancing right away. Second set's Morning Dew to Dark Star, I know you Rider, St Steven and an epic Fire on the Mountain ted us up to midnight. Like Trent mentioned, at midnight they had a 30 ft dragon drop from the ceiling and make its way to the stage as it carried a woman throwing out rose pedals. The Terrapin Station finish was a glorious 30 minute encore. Loved it!

Subject: Historic Deep Dead
So let's just take this for it's historical context here, folks- the Grateful Dead tribe bringing in 2012 in all it's glory. The band is appropriately
...
called Furthur, but we are listening to the mythical, transcendental, prophetic Grateful Dead's music with all it's ancient, esoterically encoded, DNA re-programming information jammed out to it's utmost balls-out rock and roll best for those who were wise enough to attend, witness and participate. Grand Master Wizards Bob Weir and Phil Lesh conducted with utmost skill and perfection the sacred musical ritual of renewal and rebirth with their chosen comrades by harnessing the telluric forces of the planet with great sonic blocks of granite and limestone, anchoring the serpentine energy from deep within the Earth connecting out to the center of the galaxy, paving the way for the triumphant return of Quetzalcoatl himself- the long distance runner, dragon with matches loose on the town, the primordial waters of the abyss the only thing that can cool him down as he rides the Dark Star back to the thin line of the shift of the ages. Those who perceive this historic moment in time as anything less than the monumental achievement of perfection that it was are missing the Big Picture. That's the message I got, anyway. So glad I made the pilgrimage!

Subject: Pretty Good, Really
Have to say I was there that night and from 4 different places down on the floor I was standing this recording sounds exactly like it did in that auditorium.
...
It is pretty good, really, just a little tinny, boomy and artificial-sounding, whatever that means. This recording adequately portrays what was erupting out of the PA.
All the songs are okay. Especially endearing to me was the Terrapin Suite. This was the lengthy version somewhat closely mimicking the album. I got tired of standing so during Playing Reprise I went into the lounge to relax and Terrapin was a fitting encore to a generally pleasant and rather uneventful evening.
Prior to the show a dragon fashioned out of numerous strips of wood (or plastic?) all laminated together and breathing smoke (fog) was paraded out over the heads of the teeming floor crowd hung by a giant scaffolding on an electric track. During the countdown it positioned itself down close to the stage while all the new years hoopla was going on. In my opinion they could have spared the dragon and just reduced the price of the ticket for what it cost -- it was not all that spectacular. Nonetheless, after three 1.5 hour sets I duly believed I got my money's worth, for Phil was Phil, Bobby was Bobby and the rest of the band was fairly tight and well-rehearsed.
Hats off and much thanks to Trent T for doing the labor of love. Those Sennheiser mikes are aces.

Another New Years, and not to be disappointed. The band was on all night. Highlights for me, having been there, were the last 3 songs of the first set...check
...
out the viola lee, there is a segment towards the end that is an amazing 45-60 seconds...
Second set in it's entirety. What a set list!!!
The crowd was singing and bopping all over the place all night long. Great Uncle Johns, The Wheel and Sugar Magnolia in the last set, and an epic Terrapin to end this amazing run of shows!
Thanks for posting. This band is not to be missed, some of their stuff is as good as the Dead, and I saw my share of shows at Winterland in the 77 runs...
I'm still blown away!

recording. No put down to the recorder, but you just can't capture the sonic elements. I've seen this band many many times in there 3 year existence and I will say at first I had my doubts, it sounded like a more powerful DSO. But that changed pretty damn quick once they got comfortable with each other. He sounds like John K and that's just fine with me.
Chimenti could always use a couple of decibels in the low end of his organ. John k could always use a turning up. But bob won't let that happen or it turns into johns band. Ha!
This isn't the grateful dead nor is it a grateful dead cover band.
It's Furthur!
